Outer and Inner Space
The media in the body?
For the first video artists, the magic of the electronic image consisted of
the fact that their bodies immediately became part of the media: what was
in front of the camera appeared immediately on the television.
‘Outer and Inner Space’ shows, on about six television screens,
several thematically grouped videos from the sixties until the present.
Is television really the mirror they would have us think? Is it really the
promised window to the world? Where is the body really when we see it
on television? Where is the border between ‘Outer’ and ‘Inner Space’?

The cinema within easy reach?
In ‘From Manual to Digital’ the visitor can admire all kinds of intriguing
scientific instruments. Supplemented with paper documents, objects and
several demonstrations on small computer screens, this exhibition takes
the visitor back to the period when the cinema was not yet a standardised
technology. But it was within easy reach!

From Manual to Digital
De cinema binnen handbereik?
In ‘From Manual to Digital’ kan de bezoeker zich vergapen aan allerlei
intrigerende wetenschappelijke instrumenten. Aangevuld met papieren
documenten, objecten en enkele demonstraties op kleine beeldschermpjes
voert deze tentoonstelling in de tentoonstelling de bezoeker terug naar de
periode waarin de cinema nog geen gestandaardiseerde technologie was.
Maar wel binnen handbereik lag!

De media in het lichaam?
Voor de eerste videokunstenaars bestond de magie van het elektronische
beeld erin dat hun lichamen direct deel werden van de media: wat voor de
camera stond, kwam rechtstreeks op de televisie. ‘Outer and Inner Space’
toont op een zestal televisieschermen enkele thematisch gegroepeerde
video’s van de jaren zestig tot nu.
Is de televisie wel de spiegel die men ons wil doen geloven? Is dit wel
echt het beloofde venster op de wereld? Waar is het lichaam écht als we
het zien op televisie? Waar ligt de grens tussen ‘Outer’ en ‘Inner Space’?
