Pieter Van Bogaert is a Brussels-based critic and curator. He is coauthor of Time Suspended (Square, 2004), and co-curator of the exhibition with the same name presented at Witte de With, Rotterdam, in 2004. His curated exhibitions Excess (Z33, Hasselt, 2006), Picture This (deBuren, Brussels, 2008), and Blijven Kijken / Ce qui nous regarde / Dropouts (M, Leuven, 2013) included works by Renzo Martens. A reader published on the occasion of the latter exhibition was published by Square (2013). He has coached audiovisual projects and organized seminars between cinema and anthropology for SoundImageCulture, Brussels. He was theory tutor for Fashion Matters, a temporary master’s program at the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam, where he also co-edited the book Eternal Erasure: On Fashion Matters (Sternberg Press, 2017). His most recent book is Grand Tour 2020: Meetings across Europe on Art and Ecology (Kaaitheater, 2018).

• My name is Pieter Van Bogaert. I am an independent art critic and curator. That makes me very dependent of the organisations, artists and publications I work with and for. I just finished a book on art and ecology for Imagine 2020, a long running collaborative project of ten cultural organizations across Europe: Grand Tour 2020. It will be presented in November 2018. At the same time I am looking for partners for my book and exhibition project on a place called Fort Beau, of which I hope to present the first chapter (of five) next spring.

Pieter Van Bogaert werkte tussen 1980 en 1992 voor de Antwerpse filmclub De Andere Film. In datzelfde jaar voltooide hij ook zijn studies filosofie aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Hij schreef zijn eerste filmkritieken voor Andere Sinema en zijn eerste teksten over mediacultuur voor AS. Vandaag is hij onafhankelijk criticus en curator. Hij is vast medewerker van HART en werkt regelmatig voor andere kunsttijdschriften en publicaties. Hij verzorgde de inleiding en selecteerde teksten voor ‘Een ruimte om in te bewegen. Serge Daney tussen cinema en beeldcultuur’ (Octavo, 2011). Recente tentoonstellingen liepen ondermeer in Bergen Kunsthall (Noorwegen), Witte de With (Rotterdam), Z33 (Hasselt), Netwerk (Aalst), deBuren (Brussel) en het kantoor van square (Brussel). Momenteel werkt hij aan enSuite, een onderzoek naar de imaginaire praktijk voor square vzw. Hij woont en werkt in Brussel.

Pieter Van Bogaert is a critic and curator. He regularly publishes on new media culture in the Belgian newspaper De Tijd as well as in catalogues for international exhibitions. His film and video shows and programs have been shown in several arts centres in Belgium. He is a founding member of SQUARE vzw and co-curates the electronic music series sonicsquare. He is a member of the editorial board of the media magazine AS and producer of Vlaamse Filmkes (1999), a series of short films and stories on the science fiction of Flanders. His most recent output includes ‘Outer and Inner Space’, a historical overview as part of the exhibition on tactile media Feel (Hasselt, Z33, 2004).
